The Christmas Cat
This poor, frightened cat came to our neighborhood about 2 months ago. He always seemed very hungry, would shake while eating. I sneaked food to him in spite of my husband's wished. At first he would not allow anyone to get within 6 feet of him, even offering food. Other neighbors were feeding him and we were all wondering id he was a badly treated cat from down the street or was he actually lost. He had a pink collar but no identification. Because we have a stray Jack Russell and a stray Sulphur Crested Cockatoo and my husband in need of constant care from an auto accident doubled with the worse case of eye shingles, we really did not feel at our old ages we could take in another animal. Neighbors and we feed the cat. I made a makeshift house outside for him, just in case he was not going to another home at night...nights getting colder in Virginia, USA.
On December 22nd, 2003, returning from taking my husband to one of his many doctors appointments, we noticed a gathering on the lawn of our neighbor. A Leaf Removal truck with lots of equipment was there, several workers with weedeaters and mowing equipment, the owner on the cell phone frantically calling animal control for our city, checking with the closet animal hospital, and then I saw the horrible scene of what all the fuss was about. A scene too awful to repeat, but for you to understand what happened, I must write the awful words:
Kitty had been in some awful happening, no one seems to know what. Kitty's whole left leg and part of shoulder was cut off, or somehow gone, right up to even with the shoulder, Most all of his tail was gone. He was wailing loudly and going in circles. The workmen and all of us were trying to coax him to us so we could get him to an emergency vet. He outran everyone even with just 3 legs and all he must be enduring from pain. The Lawn care owner told us to call if we got the kitty into a carrier and he would help get him to the hospital. They had to go on to next lawn. Animal Control arrived and could not catch him. I found a quiet place and cried and prayed that the Lord would take kitty if he could not get healed. I put fresh food and water out by kitty's makeshift outside house and I was sitting there in tears he hobbled into our side yard, went right into the old carrier and put his little head on the blanket and closed his eyes. I was so afraid he was going to sleep for good. He was just exhausted. I closed the carrier door and called the lawn man who was here in 15 minutes. We got to the hospital in record time. The doctor first hooked him up to IVs for fluids and pain meds. Operated soon as possible. Kept him for 5 days where the assistants and staff fell madly in love with this Christmas cat.
They brought him toys and special foods. He had more visitors than any animal they have ever had there.
This cat has brought out more love from neighbors than we have experienced in the 30 years we have been here. It is like this animal is enchanted. Everyone who has responded to this loving experience has had unusually nice things happening in their own lives. It is like as the kitty heals, the people that help are healed of whatever their problems may have been. It is so beautiful.
Even before the surgery three families wanted in on the bill for his care. We and the lawn company and our neighbor,,,the lawn where he was found will split the bill. The hospital announced it would forgive half the bill to start, because of the unusual circumstances.
Because there had to be a home to release kitty, we are IT. Now, after 27 days since that horrible day, kitty is upstairs and has taken over my sewing room. He has warm when he needs it, an automatic feeder and automatic waterer (supplement, as he gets plenty freshly cooked chicken, salmon and whatever he wants), a choice of three bed-nests, music, a glass door overlooking the balcony and to the distant mountains. The western sunshine pouring in. It is like his private suite, away from the nagging curiosity of the Jack Russell and the high pitch screams of the Cockatoo...enough to raise the dead. Speaking of that, he got a name too: "Lazarus." His many stitches are out and he has completed all his needed shots. He knows the litter box, is playful and scampering about, wobbly but learning how to operate on 3 legs as though not much happened.
As soon as he is totally well, I know we will need to pray for a home for him. We are not getting younger (75), our other pets have been here for 15 and 9 years, my husband may have this Post herpetic neuralgia for the rest of his life. Lazarus needs more time than I can give him. He is the bright spot in my days and I love him too much already, but I know somewhere the Lord will show us the right person to complete life's journey with him. He is beautiful, white shorthair, orange tip ears. His fur is growing back in the surgery places.
We thank all of you wonderful "animal people" for your prayers for this enchanted cat.
Our Christmas Cat: Lazarus.
Christine
Please forgive the lengthiness. This cat has his own guest register for visitors to sign. They are still coming. His story grows by leaps and bounds. He really is special. I do so would love to keep him...He needs more. Thank you so much

Tigger

UPDATE: Tigger has died today. Thank you for praying for him. Please pray for me and my husband. We are very hurt. Thank you, Kathy      (February 2)

Hi, my cat Tigger is very sick. I have had Tigger 7 years, since he was born. We have a bond that is as strong as mother to a child. Tigger was throwing up a lot and had a fever of 106. He was in the critical care unit for a couple of days. I broke my heart to leave him there. He tried to paw his way to me whem I had to leave. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. He is home now and still throwing up at least every other day. They gave him antibiotics and cured the infection but they don't know what is wrong with him even though they did several tests. Now they are treating him for inflamatory bowel disease with prednizone. He is still throwing up a lot. His hospital stay and treatments are very costly, 1000.00 so far. I can't afford any more other than his medicine. The next step, if they can't help him anymore, is to put him to sleep which I dread. He is my best friend and companion and has a terrific way about him. He has so much love for me and my husband. Please pray for GOD to heal him. I hope that I have him for many more years to come. Thank you so much for listening to my story and know that I will be praying for every animal. Sincerely and deeply saddened, Kathy      (January 29)

Morris
Please pray for my wonderful cat Morris. He is ten years old and his kidneys are going out on him. So far we give him special cat food, and have to give him fluids through an IV. He seems better and looks like he is putting weight back on. I say prayers every night for him. He needs all the prayers we can give him. Thanks.

Petey
Please pray for our 8-year-old yellow lab, Petey. Petey had a mass moved from his leg today
and there is a good chance that it is malignant. Your prayers are most appreciated.

Clarrie

UPDATE: She was seen at the vet's office Tuesday CST because the storm kept the office
closed Monday. Jan. 27th. Thankfully a urine sample showed no evidence of infection and the vet thought it might be a behavioral problem....Hard to know, but I think her actions might have indicated some evidence of constipation and I am feeding her a little moist presciption diet
to supplement her dry food. Continued prayers for her well-being are appreciated.
God bless you all.
J.
(January 30)

I am writing to ask your prayers and the prayers of those who read the Pet Prayer Website prayer requests for my cat Clarrie whom we have had for 15 years, and was taken in by my son as a stray. Her age is estimated to be almost 16 years. She has been in good health, but appears to have developed a urinary infection....at least I hope it's nothing more. Of course, it had to
happen on a Sunday and we are having a major snow storm as I write this at about 1:15 AM CST, Monday, Jan. 26th. Please pray that my husband can get her to the vet
later today and that she will respond well to treatment. Thanks and God's blessings ...
I will pray for all posted intentions.

Mr. Spot
My dog Mr. Spot Elvis Yuppy Puppy is extremely ill. He has gone into diabetic crisis, with canine pancreitius, renal failure and anemia. This dog is very precious to me. He has seen me through many heartaches including the loss of my husband. I ask that you pray for Mr. Spot's recovery and that he can return home for more good years with me.

Jesse
Jesse is a 2 1/2 month old Golden Retriever that my brother just found and fell in love with. He lost his beloved Dusty, who was an angelic golden retriever that was blind, a couple years ago. He found out today that Jesse has 2 bad valves in his heart that will affect the length and quality of his life. Your prayers would be greatly accepted. Peace and Light,
Kim

Gundu Rao
UPDATE: I want to thank all of you for your kind, generous and loving prayers. When I wrote the last time it was out of despair and total helplessness. At a time when I had lost most hope, it was prayers that have pulled him through. Our Vet says it is a miracle that he is still with us. He was so weak that he did not have the energy to eat or drink and had lost 4 pounds. Today he has gained a whole pound and has enough strength to fight two well-meaning adults who want to feed him his medication. We take him to get fluids every other day and he has adjusted to being put in the carrier without too much protest. He continues to grow stronger and is more demanding for love and attention. The longer I live the more I believe that there is a benevolent loving power above us and I ask Him to bless all of you. Thank you.     Anita  (January 14)

Over 14 years ago the lady at the farm came out carrying what looked like a black wet rat. The only thing I really saw was an open mouth protesting having been dunked in a flea bath. He was placed in a carrier big enough to hold a medium dog and transported home. My darling Gundu Rao has given me unconditional love comfort all these years. After 4 days at the animal hospital he came home last night, not with anger at having been confined to a small cage or at the needles poked into him but with a joy of being home and a need to be loved and held. His
kidneys are failing; from now on he will receive IV fluids every other day along with other medication to provide him relief. We do not know how long his body will hold out. I ask my fellow lovers of God's creatures to say a prayer for this dear soul. If miracles happen let it happen with him. I still have lots of love to give him.

Kadi
UPDATE: I finished the prescribed treatment for Kadi on Thursday night CST, but to keep the eye from becoming dry, I am still putting either the drops or ointment in her eye in the morning. However, she continues to be photosensitive and does not open her eye more than half way in dim light. She opens it very little in bright light. She shows no signs of it being painful and is pretty much her usual self otherwise. The last checkup made her eye irritated and she always hates going to the vet's office. Please pray that God will heal this eye quickly and give me wisdom and guidance in making the right decisions. Thanks for all the prayers and God bless
you; I am praying for all the pets on this site.

(December 1)

UPDATE: Monday, Nov. 24, we took her to the vet for a recheck of her eye ulceration after
I had been treating her with an antibioitic eye ointment and eye drops 6 times a day and night (luckily, she was cooperative) The dye used to highlight the cornea showed that the ulceration has largely healed, though there may still be some irritation. I am to continue treating her for 3 more days and if at the end of that time she still shows sensitivity to light (she does not open her eye fully) I am to have her rechecked. I am thankful for your prayers for her healing and for my
endurance to make it through this trial. God bless you both and everyone who prays for the animals listed on your wonderful, comforting site.

(November 25)

UPDATE: Thanks much; lucky I got a ride to the vet. Kadi's eye ulcerated; vet said it can happen fast. So big prayers needed. God bless you. Condition is treatable but scary. With all my own pain. it wasn't something I needed. And poor kitty was so frightened with all the barking dogs. Thanks many times. J. (November 18)

Unfortunately, Phoebe, Wendy's cat is still lost, but I have a dilemma with my own cat Kadi who seems to be injury prone. Her eye was fine Saturday evening CST, but Sunday it was swollen shut and infected. I treated it, but it doesn't look good today, Monday. Please pray it will
respond to treatment and that I can get her to a vet...I can't drive due to a disability. I am so worried. She is a precious cat with a sweet personality and I love her so much. Thank you and God bless you and all for your prayers and concern. I will keep you posted.

Mook
UPDATE: I am very pleased to let you know that we were able to go to visit Mook last week, and he is back to his normal playful self again. Running up the stairs in front of me, so he could "attack" me on my way up. He still has to take Prednisone once a day. Thank you all so much for your prayers. Wishing everyone Happy Holidays.
Love,
Mary x
(December 9)

UPDATE: Thank you for your prayers. My daughter, Pam 'phoned to let us know that she can pick Mook up today, as he has started eating. She is so happy that she is getting to bring him home. He may not be out of the woods yet, so please keep praying for him. I will keep you up to date on his condition.

 (November 17)

My Grandcat Mook has just been diagnosed with heartworms, very rare in a cat. My daughter took him in as a stray, and we love him very much. He is not eating and is under the Vet's tender care. Please pray for him. Our prayers are with you all. Thank you.

Jet

UPDATE:   Dear friends, Thank you for your prayers; our dear Jet is home now and he sits on his own lounge in our living room. Jet sleeps a lot and is still on antibiotics. I’m very concerned as he has a lump on his spine between his shoulder blades. Could you please pray that the lump will disappear? I’ve changed his diet to the best lean mince. He also has in a blender some slippery elm powder made into a paste. I also give Jet a carrot with parsley and a silver beet leaf blended with water with his meals. The special prescription food from the vet, seem to be making jet vomit. He loves his meal now and seems to have a full tummy. Our vet now thinks that Jet may have an acid secreting tumor. I will take him for a blood count and full check up next week. Our prayers and love go out to all of your pets, thank you again.
From Laurie and Stephanie     (November 6)

UPDATE:   Dear friends, thank you so much for your prayers. Our dear Jet is still alive; he has started to eat Oct 31st. When Stephanie and I went to visit Jet he patted my hand with his paw.
I realized that Jet had the will to live. Please could you still pray for him as the vet is giving Jet antibiotics. The medication will be given over a six week period to see if he heals. (This is if he has a stomach ulcer.) The vet has also advised that Jet is booked in for an endoscopy to get to the bottom of things. Sometimes dogs also get a tumor near their intestines so he could be bleeding from there. Please could you pray that Jet gets stronger each day as his blood count is still low. May the Lord bless you all.
Thank you so much again
From Laurie and Stephanie
    (October31)

Dear friends could you please pray for our dear Jet (black cocker spaniel). He has been vomiting up blood and we nearly lost him today. He may have a stomach ulcer. We adopted dear Jet 4 years ago as his human parents split up. They were about to put him asleep until we came along. Jet is so gentle and lovable, he has the best temperament. Today is Wed the 29th of Oct and I’m praying that his blood count will come up as it is only 17. Jet has the will to live and many more years in him, he is 7 and a half. Please pray that the internal bleeding stops and Jet will be able to eat as his nurses need to get his iron tablets down him. Thank you so much

TIGA (Trust In God Always)
(October19)

Please pray for Mr. Chico, he is our Lab. He was operated on today; pray God heals him and makes him better. Also, please pray for Ms. Rosie and Ms. Daisy; they are getting older and the cold weather makes their bones hurt. Pray God will touch all three of these dogs and make them well. God bless you.     (October13)

Aaron
UPDATE: I wrote to you on the 15th of October asking you to pray for a Rhodesian Ridgeback called Aaron. He was very ill and the vet did not think he would survive. Three weeks ago, he still couldn't stand up and he was just lying in his bed. He wasn't eating or drinking, and his health was rapidly deteriorating. To everyone's amazement, all of a sudden Aaron started to recover. He started eating and was able to walk without collapsing. SInce then his health has continued to improve. My friend (Aaron's owner) is overjoyed. The vet is unable to explain his recovery, but
I know that it is all thanks to your prayers. Thank you so much for helping Aaron.
Lena Piehl
     (November 14)

Could you please pray for Aaron, a very ill Rhodesian Ridgeback who is only 8 years old. He's been going downhill since August this year. First with kidney infection, weak legs, problem breathing etc. He seems to recover a bit then something else comes up. Now he's diagnosed with heart failure and collapsed during the afternoon. He is so very precious to my friend and she is beside herself. He is all she's got and I do hope your prayers will help him.
Thankyou and God Bless.

Bushy
UPDATE: Good news! Bushy is now doing extremely well, can walk properly again and can jump up and down. He is very happy, has put some weight back on and generally speaking things are going real good.
Thank you all for your kind support, without which no doubt things would have not improved as they have. God bless you all
XXX Fia
    (November 25)

UPDATE: Unfortunately Bushy is not getting better, his legs are still very weak and his glucose very high, even with an increase in insulin and also with the vitamin B12 advised by a kind lady from the Netherlands. On Thursday I shall take him back to the vet to do a glucose curve again, to see if we can improve anything. Can I therefore humbly request prayers again for my beautiful Maine Coon cat, he used to be such a big cat and he is now quite small, bless him. I do love him with all my heart and it would be the most wonderful feeling in the world if I could see him going out again and walking properly. Many thanks again
Fia
(October 13)

UPDATE: Many thanks for inserting my request for prayers for Bushy. I will keep you updated but I can already tell you that after sending you my e-mail on Friday afternoon, when I went back home from work in the evening I found Bushy much better, he seems to have really perked up, his legs are still unsteady but a lot better, and his glucose level has gone down. I do not think it is a coincidence. Will let you know of further developments, but I can tell you, an enormous weight has already been lifted from my heart. Thank you all,
Fia
(August 26)

Bushy is an adorable stray cat who has been with me for a couple of years. Unfortunately he has developed serious diabetes and his back legs have become very weak which is heartbreaking.
For the past few months I have done my very best treating him with insulin and doing anything else that may help. Seeing him hardly able to stand is one of the worst things that can happen
to a devoted pet owner. Please pray for him, I don't know what else to do. Thank you,
Fia from London     (August 22)

La La Berry turned 15 on July 15th 2003 I have had her since she was a kitten. She is a black and white tuxedo cat. She was taken for a regular exam three weeks ago. The doctor said she has hyperthyroidism. I was preparing for treatment. She started throwing up two weeks ago and I took her back to the doctor. The doctor took x-rays and discovered a mass in her intestine. Now a possibility of cancer is present. I feel so heartbroken. I am requesting prayers for my baby.
Thank you. Sincerely,
Donna

Misty
Please pray for my Misty, my beloved 5 yr old cat, who is in critical condition in the local vet hospital. She got out and was gone for a week; when she came home she had an injury to her foot and was so infested with fleas that they have drained the blood from my poor baby...she is receiving IV fluids tonight and is monitored constantly. I can't bear the thought of losing her. Thank you for this wonderful site. My prayers go out to all of the pets and families here...

Sushi
UPDATE: Sushi had her surgery on Thursday and the vet removed the tumor and mammary gland. The vet just called this morning and informed me that the tumor is malignant. The next step is to find out if the cancer has spread. Please pray that the vet got all the cancer out during surgery. Please continue to pray for her total healing. Pray for me that I will remain strong and also that I will make the proper decisions regarding her health. Thank you and God bless,

Jette and Lexus
Your web site is wonderful and inspiring. I appreciate it much and will "drop in" regularly to pray for the beloved pets of others as I now ask you to help me pray for two pets, not my own, but beloved to me. Jette and Lexus both need prayers. Jette's emotional and physical well-being is in much jeopardy due to those who do not understand her role in God's plan and that she is needed in the office. Lexus has a newly discovered tumor. Please pray that her family find the money necessary for her medical care and that her recovery be swift and complete.
Again, thank you for creating a web site that opens the doors of the heart of so many
on behalf of "all creatures great and small."
--- Blessings!!

Winnie

Jesus - I come to You today with a prayer for my puppy, Winnie. Before Winnie came to live with us, we prayed that it was Your will. When she had her heart problem - You healed her. Now, she has had this horrible accident and I just pray that You will touch her and will reduce the swelling on her brain. Give the doctors the wisdom they need to give her the best possible care. But only You, Lord, have the power to heal all of her wounds and to bring her back to us.
Lord Jesus, I have beautiful visions of a family - with our unborn daughter - and Winnie - growing up together. It is so painful for me to think of her being hurt in this way. Please protect her from any future damage - and heal all of the damage that has already been done. If this is not Your will, please help me to cope with her loss. You know I have a soft spot in my heart for animals - You created me and know me completely. I pray that she will be miraculously healed - and that I will share my story with others to help bring more people to believe in You. These things I pray in Your Son, Jesus' name. Amen.
Deborah
  (June 23)

UPDATE: [June 24]
This afternoon we heard good and bad news. The good news is - Winnie is actually up and moving around - so at least that is positive that she may not have any permanent limping or anything. The bad news is - she can't see. The vet isn't sure whether the blindness is temporary or not. I am praying for the best!

UPDATE: [June 25]
We went to see her yesterday - she's really very out of it because of the brain swelling. The good news is - the doctor said she has partial vision! She isn't eating however and does not appear to have any interest in food. I am praying that she will start eating... and that the swelling on her brain will go down soon as to prevent any future damage. If she doesn't start eating soon - she will have to have a food tube inserted in her throat. I believe in the power of prayer! I have decided I will approach the animal hospital to start a prayer for pets program for any family that comes in because prayers are what give me hope and what is keeping me going. Thank you for your prayers, and please continue to pray for little baby steps of progress!
UPDATE: [June 26]
Winnie appeared to be getting better (she wagged her tail twice yesterday and we managed to get her to swallow some food) and the vet said we could take her home - and that she perhaps may be better off in her normal surroundings. Unfortunately Winnie has now taken a turn for the worse and I will not be
able to bring her home today. I am so upset.
After showing so much promise yesterday - this morning we got a call from the Animal Hospital saying that she has slipped into a coma. She has unbalanced electrolytes and the vet said that may be what is causing it so
they're trying to get that back in check and they said they're hopeful she'll return to her state that she was before she went unconscious. Just keep praying is all I ask.

UPDATE: [July 18]
I HAVE A MIRACLE TO TELL YOU ABOUT!!!
After slipping into a coma, the vets were able to bring her electrolytes under control. But a few days later Winnie was showing signs of an abscess - and her head got to be the size of a football! Doctors drained her abscess,
and she came home. It was very difficult for me. I missed my sister-in-law's wedding because I had to stay home giving the dog 24 hr a day care. She walked in circles, could hardly squat to relieve herself because she was so weak, she bumped into things because of her blindness, and wouldn't drink any water. She couldn't walk down steps - and so I had to carry her (I'm 6 months pregnant and she's 30 pounds!) After 4 days at home, Winnie took a turn for the worse again. She became unarousable from naps, her temperature spiked, she lost interest in food, and wouldn't drink water.

Then she started to vomit - even when she had no food in her stomach. We rushed her back to the hospital where doctors did bloodwork and changed her antibiotic after fearing an infection from the abscess had set in. But after her bloodwork came back, it turns out her electrolytes had gone back out of control. The vet told me it was time we began considering other options - because it appeared that Winnie damaged the part of her brain that controls electrolyte metabolism. Her refusal to
drink water since the accident compounded the problem. And it wasn't feasible for her to return to the hospital every week to have her
electrolytes balanced with fluids (for $1000).

We decided to put Winnie to sleep. After seeing her suffer so horribly, we couldn't stand watching her wither away. My husband went to say goodbye as I couldn't stand the emotional pain. We both cried incessantly. We continued
to pray for a miracle - and tried to stay positive. One family member prayed for a "sign" that we would make the right decision.

Wouldn't you know it - on Winnie's deathbed - my husband decided to put water in front of her - and she started drinking! The vet said - "we must give this dog more time!"

Her electrolytes were balanced with fluids through an IV, and Winnie started eating and drinking on her own. She came home just 2 DAYS after we had decided to put her to sleep!!! One week later - I took her for a walk around the block. She runs, she goes up and down stairs, she eats and we've been watering down her food tremendously to make sure she is getting adequate water, she doesn't walk in circles anymore, she follows commands, and is showing signs that she's returning to the puppy that she once was. While she does have partial blindness, you'd never know it! She's a little more clumsy now - but as gentle, sweet, and loving as ever!!! We'll take it!!!! Doctors say she's not out of the woods just yet, as her electrolytes need to stay balanced. But we have her on a special medication, as well as antibiotics - to help cut the risk of infection and to help her retain water.
So far, so good.

We continue to pray for her - and are so thankful that she's still in our lives. I directly attribute her recovery to prayer. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers, and for your site.
I am encouraged and hope others are inspired by Winnie's story.
